New York State Homeschool Requirements
Homeschooling has been increasing more in popularity each year. Although all 50 states recognize the right to homeschool, New York is one of the more stringent states when it comes to compliance with educational law. Parents are required to submit paperwork for approval which includes the intent to homeschool, curriculum (IHIP), quarterly reports and annual assessments. NYS does not require the homeschooling parent to have a high school diploma or GED. Parents must be considered "competent," which basically means capable of submitting required paperwork on time and following curriculum requirements.
